About Me

Hi there! My name is Lori Leissner.  Here's a little bit about me:
  • First, I'm an introvert.  I was kind of sad about that for a long time because introversion is not really valued in our society. But now I embrace it.  Introverts don't like small talk mainly because we look like this when we try to do it:

  • I'm a big fan of bullet points. Please don't use super long paragraphs. I don't read them.  Unless you put a bullet in front of it. Then I might read it.
  • I was an English teacher for a year.  There were too many rules about how to write and I discovered I don't like children.  (I actually do like some children, but I don't want to have to work with them everyday, so I thought it would be good for both of us if I went on to do something else. I started working for a collection agency where the work environment was friendlier.)
  • I've had a couple of jobs since then.  Interestingly, they are all about rules and making sure people are following them.
  • That's probably why I like mixed media so much. NO RULES!!
  • Jesus is my savior.  I'm a mess, and He's the only one who can fix this.
  • I'm from Texas and have always lived in Texas. I don't see myself ever leaving Texas.
  •  I have a husband of many years, two kids who are growing up and moving on, a bunch of cats, three big dogs and a parrot that sings "You Are My Sunshine" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", and screams my father-in-law's name in my (deceased) mother-in-law's voice.
  • We live out in the country. Except for 8 years in Houston, a few years as an infant and preschooler and two years of high school, I've never lived within the city limits of any city or town.  I need a lot of space.
  • I'm a self-taught artist. I haven't had an in-person art class since 5th grade, but I do take online classes sometimes.  With a friend, I even started a website to help people have a single place to go to find classes and retreats.  Creative Clearinghouse is where smart creatives go to get schooled.
  • I like to blog because I don't talk that much and when I do it's often awkward.  This is a place I can talk about whatever I want and avoid the awkwardness of seeing the faces of the people who don't understand what I'm saying or don't get my humor.
  • I sometimes write silly poetry.  I can't really make that happen. It either does or it doesn't.  Oddly, it's usually inspired by some frustration like teenagers, Walmart, losing sleep or misplacing stuff.
  • I'm pretty much constantly making lists, trying to fit all my life into some kind of order.  I'm certain that, given enough time and the right bins and boxes, I'll be able to fit it all in and have time to do it all. Apparently, I tend to write about this stuff.
  • I never get bored, can whistle really loud, sing fairly well and almost always over-estimate how much I can get done in a day.
That's all I've got for now.  I may add to this later, but it gives you a pretty good idea what you might run into on this blog.  You've been warned.

Thanks for being here!

<3 Lori
